Outlaw Black

Outlaw Black
Verse 1
I’ve walked this road on the edge of a knife
A constant battle between wrong and right
The law came down and took me to task
But it never occurred to them to ask
Caught in a storm I chose to fight
But the darkness stole my light
Death came callin’ me one day
But I refused to go that way
I swam the ocean and beat the tide
I gave this life a helluva ride
Traveled too far for turnin’ back
I beat that devil by bettin’ on black
Chorus
Always knew I'd spend my life on the run
From town to town I never found the one
Feelin' wrong even when I was right
Posse chasin' my soul through the heat of the night
Wanted to be the guy wearin' the white
But good never fit me right
Somewhere 'long the line I slipped off track
Traded my white hat for outlaw black
Verse 2
Got some scars I don't try to hide
And a few old ghosts along for the ride
Burned some bridges, left some good behind
Made my peace with the things I couldn’t rewind
I ain't proud of every road that I been down
But I never let them bastards keep me down
Spent half my life tryin' to get on track
I’m still the good guy dressed in black
Chorus
Always knew I'd spend my life on the run
From town to town I never found the one
Feelin' wrong even when I was right
Posse chasin' my soul through the heat of the night
Wanted to be the guy wearin' the white
But good never fit me right
Somewhere 'long the line I slipped off track
Traded my white hat for outlaw black
Bridge
They can paint me any color that they choose
I've paid my debts and I've paid my dues
I quit askin' who's wrong or right
A man ain't always what he looks like
When my story ends on down the tracks
Lay me to rest in outlaw black
Chorus
Always knew I'd spend my life on the run
From town to town, I finally found the one
No more wrong, only right
I lost that posse somewhere in the night
Never got to be the guy wearin' the white
But that don't mean I didn't fight the good fight
Somewhere 'long the line I found my track
I’ve lived a good life in outlaw black
Outro
No white hat, I’m done with that
No more runnin', no lookin’ back
When they tell my story, remember this fact
I lived and I died in outlaw black
