TEAM BUILDING AND NEURODIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE ARE ABOUT TO GET A SERIOUS MAKEOVER. FORGET THE LECTURES AND PREDICTABLE PRESENTATIONS. OUTSIDE THE BOX LIVE! IS BRINGING THE MUSIC, THE LAUGHTER, THE CHALLENGES AND THE UNEXPECTED TO CORPORATE AMERICA, BECAUSE UNDERSTANDING DIFFERENT MINDS SHOULD BE ANYTHING BUT ORDINARY.

MAXIMUM TEAMBUILDING

Outside The Box LIVE! isn't another corporate presentation where employees sit quietly while someone talks at them. Hosted by Jim Gaffney, it is an energetic, interactive experience designed to get employees thinking, laughing, participating and, most importantly, understanding. As a late diagnosed autistic adult, Jim brings a perspective shaped by both lived and professional experience. He has spent more than 25 years working in corporate America, is the father of an autistic adult, and currently works at Jacksonville School for Autism. This combination gives Jim a unique understanding of autism from multiple perspectives: as an autistic employee navigating the workplace, as a parent supporting an autistic adult, as a professional who has spent decades inside corporate environments, and through his current work within the autism community. Jim brings these experiences together through humor, storytelling, music and hands on audience participation to help employees better understand how communication, uncertainty, workplace environments and social expectations can be experienced differently by neurodivergent individuals. The philosophy behind Outside The Box LIVE! is simple: sometimes the best way to understand a different perspective is to experience a little of it yourself.

Out Of The Box Live Audience

Get Ready to Participate

Audience participation is at the heart of Outside The Box Live! Employees aren't simply told about neurodiversity; they're invited to participate in fun and challenging activities designed to encourage conversation, empathy and a willingness to step outside their own comfort zones. And Jim isn't afraid to make things unpredictable. Karaoke is part of the experience, but with a twist. Participants may be challenged to perform songs that absolutely rock...but that they've never heard before. Suddenly, the familiar becomes unfamiliar. Participants must process new information, respond in real time and perform while other people are watching. It's fun. It's intentionally uncomfortable. And afterward, Jim connects the experience back to situations autistic employees may encounter when they're expected to immediately understand unfamiliar social expectations, communication styles or workplace situations. Other activities explore Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Employees may be challenged to communicate with one another while relying on an AAC method rather than their usual spoken communication. The exercise can create a powerful starting point for discussing communication differences and why the ability to communicate should never be confused with intelligence, capability or the value of what someone has to say.

Outide The Box LIVE engagement

Music. Laughter. Challenge. Perspective.

Jim's engaging formula blends music, karaoke, humor, storytelling, employee participation and practical workplace conversations into an experience designed to be entertaining without losing sight of its purpose. Every experiment creates an opportunity for discussion: What did that feel like? What made it difficult? What helped? How did you respond when the rules suddenly changed? What assumptions did you make about the person communicating differently? And most importantly: How might that experience change the way you interact with someone whose mind works differently from yours? Jim uses these moments to turn laughter and participation into meaningful conversations about autism, communication, inclusion, employment and the tremendous potential of neurodivergent people. The objective isn't to suggest that a brief activity can replicate the experience of being autistic. It can't. Instead, the exercises provide a memorable way to encounter unfamiliar communication demands, uncertainty and different ways of processing information, and then use those experiences to begin a deeper conversation.

Music and Laughter

There's more room Outside The Box!

By the time Outside The Box Live! ends, the goal is for employees to leave entertained, energized and perhaps looking at their coworkers a little differently. Because creating a neuroinclusive workplace isn't simply about asking autistic employees to become better at fitting into an existing environment. Sometimes organizations need to reconsider the environment itself. Different minds bring different perspectives. Different perspectives create new possibilities. And as Jim likes to demonstrate, there's a lot more room Outside The Box!
